What Is It?

This is a social debate game.

The Culture XChange© is a community-centered experience created to uplift and center Black voices in Denver. Through guided conversations, social debate, and shared learning, we create space for real dialogue, cultural exchange, and deeper understanding. While education and conversation are at the core, we’re still delivering the vibes with good music, food, and drinks because community is built best when people feel good. It’s all about exploring identity, history, and lived experiences in a way that feels open, honest, and engaging. At the heart of it, we’re focused on building community through education, representation, intentional connection, and shared moments that actually bring people together.

Challenge Perspective

The XChange© invites participants to engage with perspectives beyond their own through guided dialogue and interactive discussion. By centering Black voices in Denver and introducing unexpected shifts in conversation, participants are encouraged to reexamine their viewpoints, consider alternative narratives, and move toward shared understanding rather than rigid debate.

Test Assumptions

Through intentional prompts and structured plot twists, participants may be asked to defend or concede positions that are not their own. This approach challenges deeply held assumptions, builds critical thinking skills, and encourages intellectual flexibility, helping participants better understand how opinions are formed and reshaped.

Encourage Real Listening

Real listening is essential to reaching compromise. The Culture XChange© emphasizes active listening practices that require participants to hear, reflect, and respond with intention. By engaging with opposing or unfamiliar viewpoints, participants develop empathy, strengthen communication skills, and learn how to navigate disagreement in a way that prioritizes connection and collective growth.

Do I need to be Black to attend?

The Culture XChange© centers Black voices and experiences. Allies are welcome as long as they come ready to listen, learn, and engage respectfully.

Is this a networking event?

Connection will happen naturally, but this is not transactional networking. There are no forced intros or awkward name-tag moments.

How can I get involved or collaborate?

We’re always open to collaborators, vendors, creatives, and community partners. Reach out via Instagram or through the contact info listed on our site.

Will there be food or drinks?

Yes. We like to offer light refreshments to create a welcoming, comfortable environment for conversation and connection. Details on what’s being served will be shared ahead of each event.

    Awah Tilong

    CRD FOUNDER & HOST

    My name is Awah. I’m Cameroonian American, raised in Aurora, Colorado, and a proud Central High School alum. Growing up in Aurora shaped my connection to community and my understanding of how systems impact people from an early age.

    I hold a Master’s in Public Administration with an emphasis on organizational change, and by day I work as a Scrum Master. My work focuses on people management, intentional planning, and strong execution, making sure teams move with clarity and accountability.

    I bring that same skill set into The Culture XChange. I help turn vision into action by creating structure that supports meaningful experiences, real dialogue, and sustainable community impact. This work is personal, purposeful, and rooted in building spaces that actually work for the people they serve.

    CRD CO-FOUNDER & HOST

    Michelle here. I’m Ghanaian American, born in Ghana and raised in the Montbello neighborhood of Northeast Denver. I’m one half of the co-founders behind The Culture Room Dnvr and the host of The Culture Xchange.

    Like many of us can relate, I’m often the only Black person in my professional spaces. Navigating my two ethnic identities in environments that weren’t built with me in mind has deeply shaped how I work and what I care about. It’s taught me how to translate, connect, and build bridges where there usually aren’t any.

    By day, I work in growth automation and operations, designing systems that help companies scale with clarity and intention. I bring that same skill set into The Culture Xchange. I’m applying structure, strategy, and care to create experiences that center our community, encourage meaningful dialogue, and connect Black identities across the city.
